Happy Running! You are doing great!!!

Track, Treadmill, or Road!

The Track
Pros:
The track is a great place for speedwork. It offers flat terrain and allows for exact pacing as you go.

Cons:
The sharp turns put extra pressure on the same side of your body repetitively.

Tip:
Make sure to warm up and cooldown in the outside lanes going the opposite direction.

The Treadmill
Pros:
The treadmill tells your pace and distance. The cushioned surface is good for runners coming back from an injury. Great during the crazy Ohio weather.

Cons:
The ground moves under you on the treadmill, so technically it's easier to run on. It does not adequately prepare you fro the pounding of outside running and racing.

Tips:
Set the incline at 1 percent to simulate flat road conditions. Run on a road at least twice a week.

The Road
Pros:
Running outside develops mental toughness as you deal with various weather and other conditions and helps you prepare for races.

Cons:
It can be harder to estimate your speed, and hilly terrain or obstacles-stoplights, cars, etc. can throw off target training paces. Just roll with it....Don't worry about it...Just get out there and run for fun!

Tips:
Get a cheap stopwatch. It can help you keep track of your pace, distance, and time.

Sock It To 'Em

WrightSock Running II
Team Trinity's Favorite Running Sock
Want to prevent blisters? Want to avoid sweaty feet?

I am a huge fan
of the WrightSock Running II sock! The other Team Trinity members love them too!

I highly suggest investing in a pair!!! They are $10.00 a pair at your local running store. However, they can be found online at various websites for about $6.00 a pair. They are worth every dime!!!

WRIGHTSOCK™ Double Layer Running II: Is a midweight running sock with two moisture-wicking layers to keep your feet dry and blister-free. This sock will not change your shoe fit!

It comes in anklet and quarter heights.
Make sure you order the RUNNING II
and not another version!

Saturday's Run/Walk New Trotters Route

Things to Remember
It is hard to get up at 6:30 for a twenty minute workout. However, the first six weeks are the most important. You are training those legs and lungs! After you conquer these first three miles....You are going to LOVE being part of a running group! Hang in there. If you need ANYTHING the ENTIRE Team Trinity group is here to help, encourage, and answer questions!

Game Plan
All the Team Trinity group will do the run 5 minutes/walk 5 minutes together. The veteran runners are here to support you, encourage you, and make this FUN!!! Our total run/walk time this week is 20 minutes. Next week you ramp up to a 30 minute run/walk!

Route Description
This is a "scenic" run through one of Hartville's finest neighborhoods. I'm kidding. This route is flat with one hill. We may or may not run/walk this entire route. This serves as a directional guideline for our route, but we are running my minutes. So, we will run for five/walk for five until 10 minutes is complete. Then we will turn around and run for five/walk for five until 10 minutes brings us back towards the Magnus house!

Run/Walk Route
Turn LEFT out of Magnus driveway on to Royce Street NW
- Go straight on Royce Street NW

Turn RIGHT on Jan Road
- Follow to the dead end
- Run/Walk around the loop

Turn LEFT on Canyon
- Follow Canyon to Market Street
- Cross OVER Market Street

Go STRAIGHT on CANYON
- Do NOT turn on any of the side roads!
- Canyon dead ends on Oasis....Turn around

ROUTE BACK TO MAGNUS HOUSE
Canyon to Market
- Cross OVER MARKET
-Continue to follow Canyon

Turn RIGHT on Jan
- Follow loop around dead end
- Continue to follow Jan

Turn LEFT on Royce Street NW
- Follow to Magnus house on RIGHT

Saturday's 10 Mile Route (Hills, Hills, Hills)

Game Plan
The entire group is going to do the run/walk with our new Team Trinity members at 6:30 a.m. The rest of the group will start our 10 mile run at 7:00 a.m. This is our plan for this week, but will be different in weeks to come!

Route Review
WARNING: This is the hilliest route we've ever had. This is for your own good! The Akron marathon route is NOT flat like Cleveland. You will hate me tomorrow, but thank me on race day! Coach Momma C will bring water during this running adventure!

10 Mile Route
Turn RIGHT out of Magnus driveway

Turn RIGHT on Market Street

Turn LEFT on Lake O' Pines (Approximately 1 mile)
- Enjoy the scenary. Enjoy the horse farms, massive houses, and hills!
- Follow straight
- Cross over Kent Road (Approximately 2 miles)
- You'll now be on Nimishillen
- Follow the curvy roads!
- Nimishillen Church of the Bretheren (3 miles)....HUGE hill before church!!
- Cross over Mimishillen and Middlebranch...keep going straight!
- Wolf Road (4 miles)
- Keep on going....This is God's country....Hello, farm country!
- When you see two large red barns on your right....you are getting close!

Miller Road (5 miles)
- Look for our TURN AROUND CONE!!! Turn around and head on home!

Happy 10 Miles!!!

Next week we do 12 miles! This will be a 12 mile loop...No out and backs!

Reasons to Run

  • Running makes you feel good. Fitness, self-esteem, empowerment, and confidence all increase with exercise.

  • Running is the most effective form of cardiovascular exercise. Thirty plus minutes a day, four days a week will yield an excellent level of fitness in the shortest possible period of time. Regular-moderate running may reduce the risk of many diseases.

  • Running is the most accessible and affordable sport. No matter where you live, work, or travel, an excellent area for running is almost always nearby.

  • Running is inexpensive and simple to learn. All you need is a good pair of running shoes, appropriate running clothing, and motivation to START running. Running is a natural and information on proper training is widely available through books, websites, magazines, etc.

  • Running is the best way to reduce stress. Thirty plus minutes of running will work wonders in dissolving stress accumulated on the job or with your kids.

  • Running is an excellent component to any weight control program. Few activities burn calories as quickly and effectively.

  • Running is a flexible method of training. You can run at your own pace, with or without company, at whatever time of day best suits your schedule.

  • Running offers a unique opportunity for recreational runners to mix with WORLD-CLASS athletes. On almost any given weekend, recreational runners can compete in racing events with the fastest people in the sport.

  • Running is for families and individuals of all ages. There are running programs for kids, beginners, women-only races, masters programs for those over 40, and events for families. Set an example for your children and make running and a healthy lifestyle a family priority.

  • Running puts you in a good company. Millions of people already run for health, fun, fitness, and competition. This includes US Presidents, governors, law makers, celebrities, CEO's, mothers, grandfathers, and many more. There are running clubs in almost every community in the country and if your town does not have a running club, the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) provides information to help you develop a club.
