VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Team Bradley & Brooker vs. The Burning River 100

Your mission, Friends and Family, should you choose to accept it, involves helping Steve Brooker and Hope Bradley accomplish their goal of completing the Burning River 100 Mile endurance race within thirty hours. We need willing “special agent volunteers” to help us complete “Mission Possible” on Saturday, July 30th – Sunday, July 31st. This email contains the pertinent details you’ll need to accept or decline this special assignment.

Event Starts
Saturday, July 30th at 5:00 a.m. at Squires Castle in North Chagrin Reservation-Cleveland Metro Parks (Chagrin River Road)

Event Ends
Sunday, July 31st by the clock tower near the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls (1989 Front Street). All runners have up to 30 hours to complete the race, which means the cut-off time is 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.

Event Details/Course Details
The Burning River Endurance Run is a 100 mile trail run through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Cleveland Metroparks, Buckeye Trail, and Summit County Metroparks. There are 20 aid stations along the course (approximately every 5 miles). The aid stations have food, hydration, and first aid. These aid stations are sponsored by the race, but each runner is encouraged to have their own crew to help them during the race….this is where YOU can help!

Team Brooker & Bradley Goal
Steve and I have made a commitment to run this race together from start to finish. This is a risky move because during an ultra our bodies can do some “interesting” things. If one person is feeling good and the other person feels bad you are always at the mercy of the person struggling. Regardless, we don’t care! Our intent is not to be competitive or fast. Our objective is to accomplish a goal and go on a journey. Our motto is, “Tough times don’t last…tough people do!”

Pacer Details
We are allowed to have a pacer from miles 50-100.  Lindsey Brokaw is an experienced ultra runner from southern Ohio.  She has graciously volunteered to pace us the last 50 miles of the race.  Thank you, Lindsey!!

Volunteer Details
We are blessed to have a wonderful crew leader, Brian Evans. He will coordinate all our volunteers during the race. We need at least 10-15 volunteers to donate three hours. We are asking each volunteer to sign-up for a block of time. If you’d like to volunteer more…we’ll take it! Once we have all our volunteers we will assign you to one or two of the 20 aid stations along the course. Brian will work closely with you before the race and the day of the race to ensure you’re updated regarding our whereabouts along the course and when to expect us at your aid station. Each volunteer will receive detailed directions to their aid station(s). Brian will be at all the aid stations throughout the race. He will have our supplies…we just need your hands to help us and words of encouragement to motivate us.

I want to volunteer, but what am I expected to do?
  • Make sure we eat, drink, and cool-down while at the aid stations.
  • Help us with any gear (socks, clothing, BodyGlide, etc.) we may need.
  • Get the items we request out of our supply bags (already packed and brought by Brian).
  • Just take care of us. We will be too tired to take care of ourselves.
  • If we are craving a certain food/drink item that we don’t have packed some volunteers may be asked to run an errand and get the supplies (money will be provided to cover the cost).
  • Smile and be kind to us.
  • Understand we may not always be chipper, feel well, or look healthy.
  • NEVER tell us it is okay to quit…NEVER!
Video and Photography Needs
We are looking for several volunteers to video us during the race while we are at the aid stations and to take photos. If you are willing, please email hopebradley26.2@gmail.com and she’ll coordinate everything with you. We’d like to document the entire 100 mile journey through the 20 different aid stations. It should be an interesting documentary!

How do I become a volunteer for Team Brooker & Bradley
Send Hope (hopebradley26.2@gmail.com) or Steve (steve.brooker@goodrich.com) a confirmation email by Monday, June 27th.

Please indicate the three hour time block (listed below) you are willing to work and provide your CELL PHONE NUMBER. If you don’t have a preference simply let us know how many hours you will donate and we will assign you a time slot.
